Shiite News: Pakistan has lifted sanctions on Iran
pursuant to United Nations Security Council Resolution 2231.
The modalities for lifting of sanctions were finalised in
an inter-ministerial meeting chaired by Finance Minister Ishaq Dar. A formal
notification has been issued to this effect by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs
after the meeting. This would revive economic and commercial relationship
between Pakistan and Iran, including in the areas of trade, investment,
technology, banking, finance and energy.
Pakistan took one month to lift the sanctions after the
world powers, particularly the United States, removed a wide range of curbs
against Iran on January 16. Washington lifted sanctions after the International
Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) confirmed that Tehran had met its commitments to
roll back its nuclear programme under the July 14, 2015 agreement.
