Alam is Sign of Arab Battle Tradition. When they fight each other than both groups take their Alams. In Karbla Hazarat Abbas (a.s) was the Alambardar of Lashkare Imam Hussain(a.s), So then and today alam is symbol of Great memories of Hazarat Abbas(a.s)
